Interview with Brian Degraw from Gang Gang Dance.
Gang Gang are one of those bands that was given to me rather than a band that I happened across. Someone lent me the album ‘God’s Money’ and it took me a while to get beyond the ‘this is pretty damn weird’ to the ‘this is pretty damn amazing’. But once you get there, there is no going back. My favourite track from that album is ‘untitled (Piano)’ which has become one of those songs that instantly calms me and that I will often tack on the end of a show’s playlist if I really feel like I need it. Gang Gang are an interesting band which is more than you can say for a lot of bands these days. They are challenging. And you might not always like what they have to put out but at least you’ll really have to listen to it, no short cuts.
Brian was fascinating and passionate to talk to. I like it when you speak to musicians who really believe in the music they make and I think that comes across when listening to what he has to say about the history and future of Gang Gang. I’m looking forward to them coming out in December, it should be interesting times.
