INTERVIEW WITH TRISH KEENAN FROM BROADCAST (originally aired 10th November 2010)
I interviewed Trish in November of last year and it was terrifying for several reasons; this was going to be the second interview I’d ever done ever and the first one to go to air AND Broadcast is one of those amazing bands that you begin to feel in complete awe of after the first listen. Plus all my friends love them and I was super nervous about sounding like an idiot etc. I shouldn’t have worried so much though; Trish was amazingly warm, sincere, interesting and funny. She laughed at my ramblings about the differences between Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere Christmas’s, she chased up interesting moments, she was charming. When I heard of her passing last weekend, I was devastated.
I feel a bit strange posting this interview, because in it she talks so much about the future of the band and it’s sad to think that these plans won’t come to fruition now. But I think it’s nice to put a voice to the voice so to speak.
In my most recent show I did a special on Broadcast in the second hour (starts at 57:00) with the friend that introduced me to them. It was a sad but lovely time, it was amazing to see how the music had evolved through the years yet always retained such an intimate recognisable sound.
You’ll be missed.
note: I had to cut a bit of the start of this interview off to make it small enough to post. It’s just a bit of banter but if you want to hear the full interview you can check it out here.
Ayumu and Miwa are originally from Japan but have been living in and making music in Melbourne for the last couple of years. They are exceptionally charming humans and very excellent musicians. This was the first interview that they have done completely in English. It was an exciting nerve wracking experience for us all. Also it was really hot in the studio and I kept on saying silly things. These things may or may not be noticeable in the interview. :D
